WILDLIFE COMMISSION TO CONSIDER ADOPTING NEW FISHING REGULATIONS AND BIG GAME SEASON STRUCTURE

Release Date: 11/15/1999

The Colorado Wildlife Commission will consider final adoption of fishing regulations for Spinney Mountain and Elevenmile reservoirs and final adoption of the new big game season structure for 2000-2004 at its Nov. 18 and 19 meeting in Denver.
The meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the Hunter Education Building, 6060 Broadway.
The Division’s biologists presented the Wildlife Commission with a draft alternative of the next five-year big game season structure at its Sept. 9 meeting in Grand Junction. The draft alternative, which has been developed over the past year, was reviewed by the Commission and received final public comment.
The Commission will consider the next five-year big game season structure that includes four big game seasons: with two that would be the traditional combined deer and elk seasons.
The new season structure would include an initial five-day limited elk season, a seven-day combined deer and elk season, a second combined deer and elk season and a new fourth season for antlered deer only. The Commission will also consider final approval of liberalized bag limits for northern pike at Spinney Mountain and Elevenmile reservoirs on the South Platte River in South Park.
Final adoption will also be considered for limiting turkey hunting regulations for the spring and fall 2000 hunting season, which includes establishing limited license units and limited state wildlife areas, season dates and limiting turkey licenses for those units.
The Commission will also consider regulations relating to the Division’s statewide fish stocking program and fishing regulations for Blue Mesa Reservoir, the Gunnison River and the East River, including proposed changes to bag and possession limits and seasonal closures to kokanee salmon fishing and snagging.
